Some of you asked for details on a special Saturday writing workshop Paula LaRocque teaches twice a year at SMU. The fall 2007 workshop will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13. It’s taught through Continuing Studies, and is open to the public. The morning session is appropriate for anyone who ever has to write anything. It offers specific guidelines for achieving accuracy, clarity, brevity, interest, and warmth in written communication, whether electronic, memos, letters, reports, press releases, etc.
The afternoon will look at the more creative aspects of writing but applies to both fact and fiction. The focus will be on writing with color, voice, and freshness, whether for features, profiles, narratives, story-telling, etc,

Finally, Paula will appear on KERA’s “Think” (FM 90.1), Monday, Oct. 15, from noon till 2 pm. Listeners can call in with questions about writing, grammar, pet peeves, whatever -- the language in general. The show will be during the station’s fall pledge drive, and the KERA folks will give listeners signed copies of her latest book, “On Words,” as a pledge gift.
The fall seminar will be Saturday, Oct. 13. There’s also an interesting book-signing coming up at the Richland Hills Barnes & Noble Oct. 20.
